Here your OAV, made to cater to the pleasure of Tomoyo fans and their frustration over Nagisa ending.
In summary, Tomoya has choosen Tomoyo. They kinda started dating out of blue (notice the lack of buildup). After she is elected prez of student council, Tomoya get advised by a dickhead, the vice-prez voiced by Lelouch, to stay away from Tomoyo because “Youre ruinin her future onoes!!!”. Instead of taking the mantle of Badass of the Week badass, Tomoya bend over and dump Tomoyo to work on his own way. The both part their ways, Tomoya get eventually graduated and found a low tier job, because the world suck and is ruthless toward people who bummed through school and has not choosen scientific or economic studies. Tomoyo and Tomoya eventually meet again and BAAAAAW ensue. Finally they confess their love and how they are willing to live together no matter the hardships.
Story-wise, lots of topics has been brought about, but you could not reasonably hope them to be dealt in-depth in one episode. Can one reject love for the sake of her future and ambitions? Are you willing to give up the immense possibilities of your future for your love? Do your goal, dream or ambition matter so much without a significant one?
You can be sure that Tomoyo and Tomoya has chosen their answer. Yes, future and ambition hold so little importance when there are no one to live the rest of your life with, or when you know that it was at the cost of a love that may not come to you a second time. Not exactly a groundbreaking lesson of life as some people seems to demand so much from a visual novel adaptation, but in the context of Clannad, it works fine to me.
A small note on Tomoya. At first, he was relying on Tomoyo. It was after he broke up that he worked himself to get better grades and graduate instead of emoing his year out while writing emo poems on facebook, just to fail exams one more time. For that, it is worth a thumb up for the effort, without any help.
Technical-wise, it was up to the standards of Kyoto Animation. The color tones has worked wonders to give the atmosphere needed for the scenery. Animation was consistent and music were ok. I kinda liked the insert songs.
However, I think that this Tomoyo spin-off deserve more than ONE oav. Something like three OAV, one for build-up of Tomoyo - Tomoya relationship, the drama with Ledouche up to the break up, and the post-break-up period until their reunion may have worked fine for me.
Tomoyo is one of my favorite Clannad girls. It’s just that, while this drama was much more, it did not have as much Warm and Fuzzy Feelings (not saying they are not here, because they are) as when I watched the TV series with Tomoya x Nagisa; not to mention that there are After Story on the way, to cement Tomoya x Nagisa even more. And I talk as one who would have paired Tomoya with Tomoyo if I was given the power.
Overall? Better than I expected from one storyline crammed in one episode, only, it would have gained much more if it was a three OAV series.
PS: Sorry Kyou x Ryou, and Kotomi fans. None of them, not even any of the Furukawa family.

Dun care, Kotomi lives in my <3 :3
… oh wow ;_;u
So you watched the OAV or not?
I am right now.
I’m glad they took the Nagisa path. Tomoyo is a nice char but she’s not Lead material.
… yeah, I prefer cry-baby Nagisa over manly-girl Tomoyo ;/
Must admit 24 was good, though.
I think it has something to do with her “perfect girlfriend/housewife” aura, whereas Nagisa’s and Tomoya’s strenghts and weaknesses are completing each others.
No, she simply didn’t convince me at all. I prefer seeing her as a Chunli clone beating the crap out of Sunohara :D
It’s be actually more interesting if she was paired with Sunohara.
… I always thought the Sunohara + Fuko couple was cuter ;__;
