happy-new-year

We are waving bye bye to Santa and welcoming the two-faced Roman deity who gave his name to January. 2008 is dead, hail to 2009.

What did 2008 bring us? What did it take us? I’ll try to do it in the alphabet form, however not all letters are here, I have to go celebrate New Year Eve soon with the family, so here we go.

A Moon Rabbit is always better than some old coot

A Moon Rabbit is always better than some old coot

Not too sure what you gonna eat tonight and how you are going to celebrate your Christmas. I don’t even know if countries in the muslim sphere knows about a old coot clad in red and white. When father asked his family in Cambodia about Santa, I do remember that the answer from the kids was negative.
But does it matter? Japan knows Santa and we can see their anime girls clad in Santa costumes, and that’s all that matters.

Related opening picture.

I think you all have heard of the loltastic Nanoha review that have triggered rage and “what’s the fucking point?” reaction. One things that the average, and sane, anime fan have learnt throught the years is that ANN, especially the critics, HATES EVERYTHING. Ok, on a more accurate description, it HATES everything that include bishoujos, moé, is not by Miyazaki or is not trying to be Deep, Meaningful and Enlightening. Consequently, most of the reviews should be taken with a lot of caution and a cool head, because the odds that you’d get trolled are high.

The announcement of the release of the doujin anime by Maikaze have not gone without a word from ZUN himself.
There are a translation in Sankaku Complex. However, its translation set a different tone that could be taken wrong; in my point of view, it is a case of “Tradutore Traditore” or “Lost in Translation”. The reactions as you have guessed matched the tone of Sankaku’s translation, defensive or extreme.

This time, the nominations are opened to foreigners. I have a big interest in the seiyuu, and their work. However, EXPECT: A LOT OF BITCHING WHEN THE AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN!!!!

Something like “Waaaah! Waaaaah! My seiyuu was not nominated even tho he was absolutely spectacular in that show that received unfair bias because of its genre!!! Waaaaaaaahh”.

Or people bitching about office politics, lobby pressure, etc, just because their favorites have not gotten their awards.

Who I expect:

Best Male: Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch Lamperouge). Code Geass basically stole the limelight during a major part of 2008.

Best Female: Aya Endo (Sheryl Nome)

Best Supporting Male: Keiji Fujiwara (Ali). IMO, he was better as Ladd Russo in Baccano.

Best supporting Female: Wow, I can’t think of one.

Best New Male: I’ll pass.

Best New Female: Haruka Tomatsu (Nagi)

Best Singer: I don’t care much.

Best Personality:

Overseas Choice Award: Between Megumi Hayashibara (because of Slayers) or Rie Kugimiya.

My Picks:

Best Male: Yuuji Ueda (Krauser II). He brought the Emperor of Death Metal to life!

Best Female: Paku Romi (Kuromitsu). The definition of the black widow and the ice lady, the kind that haunt you with her ice-cold beauty and stab you in the back.

Best Supporting Male: Daisuke Ono have been already nominated for Hosaka. I’ll go for Tomokazu Sugita as Graham Spector in Baccano!

Best Supporting Female: Yui Horie as Minori from Toradora.

Best New Male: hahahahahah

Best New Female: No choice in mind.

Best Singer: again; j-pop is not really my cup of tea, if my posts on music did not tip you off really (Morricone, Godspeed you Black Emperor and Opeth).

Best Personality: I have no effing idea what it means. However, I’ll go for Daisuke Ono for having a bucketload of fun being Hosaka inside and outside the series. Just look at the videos somewhere on youtube or nicovideo if you don’t believe me.

Overseas Choice Award: Meh.

Meanwhile, I go to watch “Waltz with Bashir”. THIS, Japan, is HOW you should show war in animation!

Other than the lame pun in the article, here is the Source.

This is the kind of news that pulls me out of the DC Washington Wasteland, yet leaves me with mixed impressions. Maikaze, a doujin studio known for these videos, have apparently brought their announced project to completion.

This was drawn by a fanartist some weeks ago. Yes, be very afraid by how accurate it was.

They even announced the following voice cast:

Hakurei Reimu – Nakahara Mai (Mai Tokiha (HAX SIGN BURN EVERYTHING), Ryuugu Rena (Scary Yandere), Nagisa Furukawa (Dango Girl))
Kirisame Marisa – Sawashiro Miyuki (Shinku from Rozen Maiden)
Shameimaru Aya – Fujimura Ayumi (Ayano who always get her skirt blown in Kaze no Stigma)
Patchouli Knowledge – Takahashi Mikako (Caro from Nanoha StrikerS)
Izayoi Sakuya – Tanaka Rie (Suigin Tou, Maria (Paddo Ja Nai!))
Remilia Scarlet – Tsuji Ayumi (Guchuko from Potemayo)
Ibuki Suika – Toyosaki Aki (The green haired female lead from Umisho)
Hong Meirin – ???
Narration – Inoue Kikuko (Do I need to say more?)

If you guys have o effing idea of how they sounds like, here is a nicovideo link.

I like this voice cast better than the one from the video I posted some months ago.

Now that I think about it, the biggest unknown about this project is the genre. Will it be a slice-of-life like flip-flop? Badass action like Tohonifun? A mix of both? Trailers seems to point to the mixed genre option?

All the western fans needs now is to wait and see. C75 seems to be so far.
