Ennio Morricone!
The legendary Italian composer of modern times, my personal favorite, celebrated his 80th birthday.
It looks like Komachi Onozuka slacked off, for the good of the world of music.
Some music from him

Before going in the topic, here a little story of my life. Before I was like ten, I used to not give two shit about music in movies. However, tunes had stuck in my mind. Especially, this one. It was actually the year I watched “Predator” that I actually started to pay attention to the music. Because, Predator would not be as awesome in my eyes without Alan Silvestri’s score. Tags: Music
I have gotten my hands on the Minami-ke character songs. It was ok for most of them, most of them stayed in-character, the exception being Nana Mizuki who sounded like herself whenever she sings, but it was a rather nice song, so I can forgive it. But my favorite songs were Mako-cake’s, Sensei x Ninomiya-kun’s AND the most of all, Hosaka’s song, for it was the most in-character of all. It’s so win it got its own MAD. PS: No songs for the Minami Bros, Sheba is sad :( Tags: Anime, Music

Music Appreciation Post: “Godspeed You! Black Emperor”Posted by: Sheba in UncategorisedAnyone who have watched 28 Days Later are likely remembering opening scene as one of the most intense and powerful portrayals of the aftermath of an apocalyptic disaster in a movie ever (Romero’s “Day of the Dead” is one of those to be seen). The power of this scene was enhanced by the music that gave it an eerie “End of days” feeling. To those who didn’t know and wondered why it did not make it to the original soundtrack sold in your local music stores, it is a part of “East Hastings” by the Canadian band Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The name of the band is taken from a japanese documentary. It’s one of those alt-prog-post (whatever labels) rock bands. Like many prog rock bands, very long songs are commonplace. With Godspeed You! Black Emperor, songs often clocks around 8 or 11 minutes, even 15 to 25 minutes, if you are used to consume those 3 to 4 minutes pop rock songs, you may not like it on the first listening, often your attention span may fail you; but to those who like to savor every minutes, or single seconds, of a long song, it’s all the more rewarding. Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s could be better compared to the good old classical musicians in the way they construct their melodies. It is composed of several movements that goes crescendo until the final instrumental climax. GYBE’s songs that fit the description could be “Blaise Bailey Finnegan III”, “Sleep” and “Storm” (listen the last mentionned song after you have listened Ravel’s “Bolero”, it’s quite stunning). If I need a description of the topics they are trying to touch when they play their music, it could be an overview on modern times and urban civilization. I could rave over and over the merits of this band, but it won’t do it justice. You just need to get your hands on one of their songs, sit through them and maybe enjoy them. Tags: Music |
