I love this genre and much to my pleasure, it never died. Even in its darkest hours, it has not gone extinct, thanks to the offers from the doujin scene.
While it may not enjoy the popularity of the early 1990s, or when Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter and Tekken has overshadowed them, there were still people picking one up for some games with their friends. Why? Why does it refuse to die when 3DEE is the rage, when nerds can just pick SC4 to play Yoda and Darth Vader?

It look like it is.

This is not the definitive version yet. And god thanks it is not.
If you ask me, I has not liked the look of the rune knights. Too much neon, and too much spikes. The knight class never struck me as the “dark and edgy” class, I prefer to leave it to emossins. And they nerfed the zettai ryouikki of the female knights, it was their trump against slutty dancers and not-so-quite-innocent priestesses.

The main selling point of female lord knights, zettai ryouikki
Actually, female arc bishops has not gotten it better. Fishnet stockings give them a look comparable to a 1980s hungarian 3rd rate hooker.
Let’s not talk about the mechanics who has lost their sexy hick girls appeal.
I am rather disappointed by the look of the third class. I am just hoping that their skills, especially those of the Rune Knights, are not as disappointing.

Biggest bitchslap on whatever creativity was left in that company.
Oh yes, I so long for more remakes of remakes of remakes of Final Fantasy and more milking of FF7 for the two decades to come!

The will to talk about the cutscenes and the place it should take in the video has sparked from the post of a Metal Gear Solid fanboy on a french forum that has gone like this: “Kojima pushes shows the world what direction the video game media should take.”
It did rub me the wrong way.

Late 2000s is a very good period for 2D fighting game lovers. SNK is finally getting his ass on working on making something new for King of Fighters XII, Sammy/Arc systems Works is still working on this game that is not guilty Gear but look like it after having released Fist of the North Star two years ago and Sengoku Basara X, Yuki Enterprise/Examu inc. is taking firm roots with Arcana Heart series. Then there are Capcom, the Capcom that people assumed to have quit the fighter business after the CFAS and Capcom Fighting Jam fiascos to focus on franchises like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Sengoku Basara and the funky Phoenix Wright.
It was a semi-surprise when Capcom announced a fourth Street Fighter. What was a little more surprising was the announcement of a Versus game. Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Red Eyes of the Lunacy: Not as Planned!
For the uneducated ones, Reisen Udongein Inaba is the adorable moon rabbit living in gensokyo, the imaginary land featured in the Touhou game franchise. In the same fashion as the legendary Basilisk, her eyes can cause lunacy. You can say that her cunning plan has not gone thru.
To my dear readers, you can mail me strange, funny, “not as planned” stories, be it in real life, manga/anime, or in history. Just make sure you explain how it went “Not as Planned”.

By Crom! He is back!
As I write now, in direct live on Game One from the WWI in Paris, Diablo 3 has been announced!!!
Right now the Blizzard guys are showing a demo, featuring the barbarian. In term of graphic feeling, it is close to Guild War, but more gorgeous!

Clicky for full image
ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!
Edit:
Some fluffs:
* It seems that some mobs will be tougher, skeletons can shield themselves and characters will have to find a way to get through it. i.e: The barbarian can use a stunning stomp that force the skeletons to lower their shields, and are therefore open to retaliation.
* Necromancer has a zombie wall. Don’t laugh, it’s like ice walls, firewalls, but with zombie.
* One of the bosses or mini-bosses looks like a Lictor for the Kult RPG, or the Baron Harkonnen. Only bigger and swinging two maces.
EDIT 2:
Before you ask. No, I has no means to capture Diablo 3 footage as I was watching TV, unprepared. Wait for the videos online to pop up.

Incoming Yandere Alice Ending
So I have been messing around the game for quite a time already. And thoughts has crossed my mind:
#1. This game needs patch. Like really and badly. However, I challenge you to find me one doujin game who got it right on first version. Hell even Melty Blood on its very first release has glitches or gameplay issues.
#2. Doujin artists are fucking fast. I can count about three non safe for work pictures of the two bosses of Touhou Hisouten, especially Tenshi aka Peach Hat Loli, on danbooru.
So what’s good? what’s bad about the new ZUN & Twilight Frontier collaboration?

I have been talking for a while with my childhood friend and something has sparkling between us regarding the state of PCs and consoles game devolpment. While there may be exceptions to the rule, most of the lastest PC hits (like Crysis, something like that) has been taking advantages of the lastest innovations in technology but never it seemed to care about the lower tiers of PC market and make the best of whatever those old PCs has. PC technology is like weaponry industry in the hottest years of the Cold War, it keeps going on and on and up, it’s like the one left behind will be lost. No pentium 3 and 4 users, you are never going to play this new and hot MMO, RTS and FPS, you can go fuck yourself and sell your kidney for a quad core intel.
Consoles are different, you can hope to last about five, four years without having to worry to change your console or upgrade it. Even with consoles coming near of their theorical lifetime, there were still gorgeous games being released and showing that the suppose ddying console has something in the guts that was untapped. What games and what consoles comes in mind? On the PS2, Shadow of the Colossus belong to the pantheon of the most visually memorable, the playstation 2 has been pushed to its last limits with this game, not to mention that the game is fucking good. Another example will be Shenmue on Dreamcast, you see it then wonder how did we come to having Sega pulling the plug when the console has so much to offer.
And when we talked about those mentionned consoles, one has to keep in mind that both PS2 and Dreamcast could hold comparison to the top notch PCs of their time, in term of graphic and sound.
So, if console developers can pull a Shadow of the Colossus or a Shenmue on consoles coming to their end, why can’t PC developpers do the same with their lower tier machines? What the hell guys? I know that consoles are also plagued by shit like the tyranny of Squarenix’s cutscenewanks, but how about stopping looking at the top of the ladder of the PC technology and looking at what the middle or the bottom has to offer? I am fucking tired of drooling over a PC game I want to play and will never because I couldn’t afford a eightcore processor with the lastest GeForce 555 Turbo Edition and 1 tera byte of RAM.

Optic Blast!
It is finally out, you can obtain the game via various means I won’t mention here.
It’s too early to tell who is top tier and who is not. You can check Aroduc’s article to witness the Touhou boss horror, that is thousand steps above the SNK Boss Syndrome. Only Guilty Gear X2’s Mission Mode has been so close to the frustration you can feel from playing a fighting game.
Pretty much everyone from Immaterial and Missing Power has returned, with the exception of Chuugoku who has gotten the boot. The new characters are Aya, you have played in the demo if you downloaded it, Komachi (Iori E will be happy) and Reisen (Shiny will be happy), and the two bosses.
A lot of changes, for the system and the characters, how much the characters have changed depend on the characters.
To note a few things:
System-wise:
All new card system, even if I played the demo a lot, it’s still difficult to adjust.
Melee and bullet setup: A is pure melee with a built-in chain when you spam it at close range, B and C are projectiles. Most of characters can charge up their projectiles for varying effects.
Bombs are no more like in IaMP. It’s in your spellcard deck.
You can run out of spellcards. It’s bothersome in story mode
You can build your own spellcard deck. But some have yet to be unlocked.
And that’s what I remember from playing it so far.
Now for the character changes
Reimu’s “Aegis Reflector” wannabe has changed for the better. I feel Reimu has gotten better all around.
Aya is likely going to be the character for speedster players. Her good speed make her a capable melee character.
Alice’s seems to have gained more tools for her okizeme (knockdown-wakeup) game. Her C-button doll setup + 22B/C comes in mind.
Sakuya has changed A LOT. For the better or the worst is still up to tournament players. Her 236+B/C is now a direct attack. Her 623+B/C seems to have a longer horizontal range while her teleport is now done with 22+B/C, more instinctive. I have yet to see if I can unlock ZA WARUDO spellcard. She just doesn’t feel the same without it.
Yukarin has gained a Teleport into attack move
Patchou’s geyser goes higher. Is Royal flare an unlockable card? I miss it a lot.
Remilia is still a beasty beast.
Now the new characters:
Reisen has OPTIC BLAST! A weird sphere move for which I have yet to find a use and a weird move that get an doppleganger of her leaping and shooting bullets. The doppleganger thing reminds me of Basara from Samurai Shodown. And I abuse Reisen’s 6+A like a fucking dork. It’s like Slayer’s Mappa Punch.
Komachi is slow, she also have Spiral’s Switch teleport from Marvel games.
That’s all I can remember for now. I am not to sure if I like Sakuya’s changes, some were good, some seems rather bad, well I have Aya to mess around.
